1. Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter
The compact design and lightweight of the Xiaomi Mi 1S electric scooter are immediately noticeable. The Chinese manufacturer claims that it weighs 12.5 kilograms using the aluminum frame used in aeronautical engineering. This also ensures stability. Due to its compact design, it should fold up and set up in just 3 seconds.
The scooter is powered by a lithium-ion battery of the type 18650. This provides power for up to 30 kilometers. Then it has to be reloaded. The handlebar made of so-called TPR material ensures a good grip and, in combination with the gentle resistance of the manual throttle and the quick reaction, should make the control more fluid. The electric scooter can reach a maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour.
The tires consist of 8.5-inch pneumatic tires; disc brakes with ABS are installed on the front wheel for braking. The multifunction dashboard provides eight different types of data such as speed, performance, and driving data. The e-scooter can be connected to the Mi-Home app via Bluetooth in order to monitor driving data or adjust the cruise control settings. Six intelligent protection functions are also available, such as protection against short circuits or against overvoltage.
2. Segway Ninebot ES1 Gen2 Electric Kick Scooter
The foldable e-scooter Segway Ninebot ES1 is primarily intended for short trips. It has a so-called one-push folding system. The electric scooter can be folded up with just one movement. Another special feature is the shock absorber on the front wheel. The device has a typical 250-watt electric motor. This draws its energy from a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 5.2-ampere-hours or 187-watt hours. With this, a top speed of up to 20 km / h can be achieved. After around 25 kilometers, the fun is over and the battery has to be recharged. This should be possible in around 3.5 hours. Tip: The scooter can be upgraded with a second battery. This ensures a speed of 25 km / h and a range of 45 kilometers.
No visible cables: The Segway Ninebot ES1 electric scooter has no visible connection cables and is therefore very aesthetic. A reflector also ensures extra safety in poor lighting conditions. The electric scooter is equipped with an electronic brake with ABS mechanism on the front and a stepped fender brake on the rear. Splash water and dirt cannot harm the electrically powered scooter. This is ensured by the IPX protection class IP54. When it comes to tires, Segway Ninebot uses solid rubber tires with a diameter of 20 centimeters on the front and 19.2 centimeters on the rear.
Technology freaks get their money’s worth with the model. Because Bluetooth allows connection with the smartphone. The cruise control regulates the speed. Three driving modes ensure driving pleasure. Even if the 11.3-kilogram model has an LED light at the front, it is not approved for German road traffic. Neither for children, as the manufacturer specifies an age of +14 years. Maximum weight: 100 kilograms.
3. SEGWAY Ninebot eKickScooter ZING E10 Electric Kick Scooter
We have included it in our test because on the one hand, it stands out because of its extremely funky look and on the other hand, it is often offered at a very affordable price. This electric scooter is equipped with tons of LEDs, which make the scooter look very futuristic.
In addition to the obligatory front LED, there is even continuous lighting directly in the handlebar and a stylish rear light with brake light function and it is even equipped with LEDs on the side of the handles that activate when touched! Overall, the scooter looks very cool with its numerous lights, with this vehicle you should definitely stand out on the road.
Another special feature is that various functions of the scooter can also be controlled via a smartphone app. For example, the maximum speed can be set or lighting effects can be switched on and off. There is even the option to set individual color combinations – actually a really cool gimmick. In addition, the app can also be used to display the current speed and the remaining range, etc. There is also a permanently installed speed and battery level indicator on the handlebars of the scooter.
4. Segway Ninebot ES2 Electric Kick Scooter
What astonished us is the wide range of functions of this electric scooter – features such as cruise control, anti-lock braking system, LED display, smartphone app, and adjustable ambient lights are not a matter of course with such an inexpensive model. The ES2 is also visually impressive with its simple but stylish design – it is not surprising that this model received the “iF Design Award 2018”. As for the operation of the ES2, the emphasis was apparently placed on simplicity.
There is only a single control button on the handlebars with which you can not only switch the scooter on and off but also activate the lights and select a different support level. The LED front and rear lights are quite strong and overall did a good job. You have a good view at night and can also be seen very well by other road users.
Incidentally, when braking, the rear light shines brighter, so that following traffic is warned. We’ll leave it open whether the stylish underbody lighting really makes sense. The lights look cool, but they also make you stand out. We can imagine that this is not necessarily for everyone. If necessary, you can also simply switch off the underbody lights. At night, however, they do indeed offer additional safety: once the scooter was running, the gas could be dosed quite well. The 25 km / h top speed could be reached quite quickly in the test.
5. Razor E300 Electric Scooter
The E300 from Razor is a well-made and stable electric scooter that is designed for people up to 100 kg. With its wide deck and wide tires, the Razor E300 electric scooter offers you a lot of driving comfort at a maximum speed of 24 km / h. Without lighting, the Razor E300 e-scooter is generally not approved for road traffic, which is not necessary, for example, to move around the campsite. However, if you install lighting, you can also use this scooter for the daily commute, for shopping through the city and other distances of up to around 10 kilometers.
The motor is a 280-watt electric motor that transmits the torque to the rear wheel via the chain and pushes it vigorously, especially on flat terrain. A small nudge of the foot is enough to really take off with the Razor electric scooter and move quickly from A to B at speeds of around 20 km / h. However, the motor was not developed for alternating up and down and for mastering demanding climbs. Due to the existing freewheel device, the scooter can also be used without motor assistance.
The chain-driven motor draws the necessary energy from two 12 volt batteries, which, according to the manufacturer, provide electricity for around 40 minutes. In the Razor E300 electric scooter test, distances of around 10 kilometers can be covered with the two 12 volt batteries, depending on the driver’s weight and driving style. It takes about 6 to 8 hours to recharge depleted batteries. A charger is included.
